OUTFALL & INTAKE PROTECTION

The risk of environmental damage together with the high cost of maintenance on outfalls and intakes makes cathodic protection an essential safeguard.

In the case of sewerage outfalls, it is important to maintain the integrity of the pipeline as a whole, thereby utilising the full flow to create maximum dispersion. There is also the need to protect the diffusers which assist in the dispersion process.

Corrintec ICCP systems can be easily installed on the shore where ground conditions provide conditions of low resistivity. Anode beds can be created horizontally by excavating trenches or vertically in bore holes.

The effectiveness of the system can be checked periodically using 'trailing wire' methods in conjunction with GPS positioning to accuractely follow the alignment of the pipe. Readings can be taken manually or using Corrintec's CP PRO computerised system which provides the accuracy of up to four readings per second.

Surveys determine the condition of the cathodic protection system and provide clients with data on which to make informed maintenance decisions. The also alloe areas of pipeline coating damage to be indentified, particularly in the critical area near the waterline where damage is generally most common.
