The submerged surface area of a jetty changes in relation to the tidal range. Flexible automated ICCP systems allow for this by increasing or decreasing the output to the anodes. This avoids the risk of over protection at low tide when the submerged surface is at its minimum and under protection at high tide when it is at its maximum.
Corrintec systems consist of an automatic transformer unit and an arrangement of reference electrodes which sense the potential of the structure and adjust the current output accordingly. In many cases the jetty is zoned to make allowances for differences in the amount of submerged steel.
